How to Delete Email on Gmail Simple Step

Bulk Delete Gmail Messages

Deleting Multiple Messages in Gmail

I want to add tooltips to explain features in detail in my pricing table.

In this tip, I will show you how I delete 62,000 messages with just a couple of clicks and made my Gmail inbox clean.

This will work in both Gmail and Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)

1. Filter Emails

To get started, log into your Gmail inbox as you'd always do.

And while you're in your inbox, type "is: unread" in the search bar and perform a search.

This will let you filter your email and only show unread messages.

2. Select all messages

Next, check a little box under the search bar to select all displayed messages.

Now you notice in my case I have over 62,000 emails however, only 100 conversations are selected.

This is because by default Gmail displays 100 messages per page. So in our next step I show you how you select all the unread conversations.

3. Select all Conversations

So to select all messages (62,556 for my case) that match the search criteria of "unread", click on the "Select all conversations that match this search" link.

This selects all unread messages in your inbox.

4. Delete all Messages

Now you're ready to delete all unread messages in your Gmail inbox.

Go ahead and click on the trash icon. Gmail will then ask you to confirm your action, just click "OK" and you're done.

After confirming deletion, it may take some time for Gmail to trash all the emails. This depends on the number of messages, in my case, it took about 2-3 minutes.

5. Empty Trash

So after you've deleted emails from your inbox, Gmail stores them in the trash from where they're automatically deleted after 30 days.

You can go ahead and empty the trash yourself. To do so, just head over to your trash and click on the "Empty Trash now" link, then confirm the deletion.

And that is it! I hope it was helpful, if you have any questions go ahead and leave them in the comment section below and I'll be happy to help. Thank you!

How to Delete By Topic in Gmail

If you’re still not feeling quite brave enough for overarching delete options, you may still be able to clear substantial amounts of junk or outdated mail from your inbox.

For example, you may regularly receive subscription emails for sales from your favorite brands, certain job searches, or news updates from different online sources. You can enter individual search terms that cover some of these criteria and delete them with greater accuracy, making sure nothing you need is swept away during your digital purging efforts.

You can also delete based on a number of criteria, including size, topic, or attachments. Try entering some of these parameters to see whether it yields a good number of emails ripe for deletion.

For size: Larger:2M (insert the number that makes sense for you; this search is for emails larger than 2MB)

Subject:(Limited Time) (very useful for deleting outdated retail sale messages)

Has: attachment (for perusing any emails with attachments; useful for clearing space quickly)

And, if you want additional options for searching, use the drop-down arrow on the search bar to reveal a form with multiple search options.

How to Delete All Unread Emails in Gmail

  1. If you’re not ready to take the plunge and expunge the full contents of your inbox, you can still clear away that pesky notification icon by removing all unread messages.
  2. You can use the search bar to find all unread emails in your inbox. Search for all emails with the label “unread” and Gmail will present you with a list.
  3. Then, when prompted, you can choose to delete either the first 50 emails or any messages in your inbox that match this criteria.
